Research & Advocacy

Research and advocacy are pivotal in amplifying the voices of the Rohingya community and driving policy reform. SURD conducts research to understand the challenges faced by the community, such as health, education, and human rights. This evidence-based approach informs advocacy efforts, ensuring actionable and impactful solutions. Advocacy campaigns focus on raising awareness, influencing policy, and fostering collaboration among stakeholders. Rooted in the knowledge gained through education, research highlights critical gaps, while advocacy ensures these findings lead to real change. Together, they serve as the bridge between grassroots needs and systemic reforms, driving progress at multiple levels.

Alignment with SDGs and Refugee Rights:
4. Research and advocacy align with SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions) by promoting inclusive societies and effective governance. These initiatives advance refugee rights by highlighting the challenges faced by displaced populations and proposing policy reforms. For Rohingya refugees, evidence-based advocacy ensures that international standards like the Global Compact on Refugees are upheld. Advocacy campaigns address critical gaps in health, education, and livelihoods, emphasizing the importance of inclusive and equitable development.

Strategic Plan to Navigate:
SURD collaborates with academic institutions and NGOs to conduct research on community needs, ensuring data-driven advocacy. Findings are used to design awareness campaigns and influence policy changes. SURD also organizes forums to amplify community voices and bridge gaps between refugees and policymakers. By fostering partnerships, it enhances its capacity to address systemic challenges and promote long-term solutions for refugee well-being.

SURD is interested in supporting the Bangladesh government by leveraging grassroots research and international advocacy to address refugee challenges effectively. Through community-driven research, SURD identifies pressing needs in areas like health, education, and livelihoods, providing actionable insights for tailored policies and resource allocation. By training local researchers in data collection and analysis, SURD fosters grassroots participation and strengthens the knowledge base for sustainable development. These efforts empower the government with reliable data to implement informed, inclusive interventions. On the international stage, SURD amplifies Bangladesh’s efforts by advocating for increased global support, funding, and policy reforms aligned with refugee needs. Using its findings, SURD bridges local challenges with global opportunities, ensuring that grassroots realities inform international humanitarian priorities. By aligning its expertise with the government’s goals, SURD creates a pathway for impactful policies, stronger global advocacy, and sustainable solutions for refugee management and community development.
